Gemma up for award
 Women's Football News 5 Dec 2013

Gemma up for award - 5 Dec 2013 - Women's Football NewsGemma Donnelly has been shortlisted for a top honour at a new FA Awards Ceremony.

Blackburn Rovers' interim manager, who has worked for the club in various roles over the past 11 years, has been nominated for 'Talent Coach of the Year in the Female Game' by The FA Licensed Coaches' Club.

Gemma, who also runs Rovers' renowned Centre of Excellence, said: "This is totally unexpected and I am very honoured to receive the nomination. I am looking forward to attending the event and meeting all the other nominees in the various categories.

"I am very fortunate to work with such a talented and dedicated group of players and staff, and I have to pay special thanks to the club, who have always supported and encouraged the growth of the Women & Girls section. Without that, it would have been an impossible task."

The first ever FA Licensed Coaches' Club Coaching Awards will be held on December 13th at St. George's Park and will recognise and reward the achievements, dedication and expertise of those coaches who work tirelessly to develop the next generation of young English players.

The very best coaches across 14 categories will be recognised in front of 250 invite-only attendees representing coaches and key stakeholders from across the whole game, from grassroots clubs through to the highest levels of the professional game.

The event will mark the opening of the annual three-day FA Licensed Coaches' Club conference and represents another significant step to raising the profile of coaching in this country.

Sir Trevor Brooking, Director of Football Development, believes coaches deserve the same recognition as managers and players for the work they do in the game. He said: "The FA Licensed Coaches' Club Coaching Awards have been created to recognise and reward coaches in football, that to date remain unrecognised by the governing body. Volunteer and paid coaches are the driving force and inspiration behind the thousands of players that take to the pitch every week.

"Players and managers are regularly celebrated through high-profile awards and we want to establish the same for the profession of coaching, alongside the two professional leagues. In time we hope the event will grow to the size and status of other celebrated award evenings in the game."
