We talk to...Hannah Billingham (Cardiff Met Ladies) - 10 Jan 2014 - Women's Football NewsCardiff Met Ladies strengthened their position as Shared Access Welsh Premier Women's League leaders on Sunday with a 7-0 victory against reigning Champions Cardiff City FC.
Cardiff Met captain Hannah Billingham spoke to Women's Soccer Scene about the game and her side's efforts to go one better than last season when they just missed out on the title on goal difference:
This was a fantastic result for Cardiff Met Ladies, is that the best the team has played this season?
To be honest, we've played better - it wasn't our best performance coming back after the Christmas break but we did do well. We're proud of the result and the way we played.

The game was played in terrible conditions with a strong wind and driving rain at times, it must have been tough?
Yes, obviously it did make a difference and made it more difficult but I think that despite the conditions, we did well.

The first goal came on the stroke of half time, it couldn't really have been better timed?
I'm glad we got the goal right on half time as it gave us confidence when we went in - we came back out and were stronger than ever.

When the penalty and sending off came it was important that you scored to make it 2-0, as that probably dispirited City?
I think it did, but to be fair to them (City), they did play right up until the end. We knew we had to stay strong coming out in the second half and that's what we did.

Laura May Walkley had a commanding match in the midfield and her finishing was terrific?
Yes she did and Ellie Curson as well they both did well

Looking at the broader picture now, this was an important win as regards to the title race, is the team's confidence growing week by week with every game that you win?
Our confidence has always been strong in training and in the games we play we're always pretty proud of ourselves. Hopefully we can keep confident and keep winning games!

After going so close to winning the league last season, missing out on goal difference, is there an extra determination this time around to get that title back?
Definitely! The heartbreak at the end of last season has made us more determined to win it this season

You have taken over the captaincy this season, what has it been like for you?
It's great, I am really proud of the team. They are a good bunch of girls.

Do you think that the result against Cardiff City will prove to the other teams and challengers that you really mean business this season?
I think they already knew it to be honest!
