Glasgow City are delighted to announce that they have re-signed Northern Ireland international defender Julie Nelson for the upcoming season.
The defender first joined the Scottish Champions last summer from Everton and went on to help the team win the Scottish domestic treble as well as reaching the last 16 of the UEFA Women's Champions League.
Commenting on securing Nelson on board once more, City Head Coach, Eddie Wolecki Black said: "In football it shows how quickly things can change. I spoke with Julie at the end of the season and it was agreed she would go home and review her options. I had resigned myself to her departure and looked for another centre half to join us as a replacement. However she has had a change of mind and has agreed to stay for the forthcoming season.
"I am happy that my search for a second centre half is concluded and we now look well covered again in that area. I look forward to seeing Julie back with the team soon."
On coming back to Glasgow City, Julie said: "After spending some time at home in the off-season and assessing my options, I'm delighted to be re-signing for Glasgow City again for the upcoming season. I thoroughly enjoyed my short time with the club last year and look forward to moving back over to Glasgow and helping the team aim for more success domestically in 2014 as well as competing in the Champions League."
Meanwhile Glasgow City have announced two very exciting pre-season friendlies against top English Super League sides Everton and Manchester City.
The Scottish Champions will take on Everton at home at Petershill Park on Sunday 16th February and will follow that up one week later taking on big spending Manchester City on the 23rd, also at Petershill Park.
Everton, who finished third in the first two years of the Super League and fifth last term are expected to be stern opposition for City as the Scots look to blow away the cobwebs of pre-season with their first match of 2013.
Seven days later, the mighty Manchester City come to town, having already developed a big reputation in the women's game, despite having yet to kick a ball in the Super League. Immediately licensed by the English FA for Division 1 in the Super League, Manchester City have not disappointed with a number of major signings announced in the close season, including England international stars Steph Houghton, Toni Duggan, Karen Bardsley and Jill Scott.
Commenting on his side's upcoming pre-season match schedule, City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black said: "The pre-season in the SWPL brings many challenges. Therefore it is essential to get top quality opposition to help us get ready for the new season. It is fair to say we have certainly managed to do that. It is vital the players have a run of competitive games that push us to the limit before the international tournament in Cyprus. I hope the supporters will turn out in good numbers to see what promises to be very interesting matches and also take the opportunity to see the clubs new signings."
Everton Team Manager Andy Spence added: "We are delighted to be playing Glasgow City as part of our pre-season preparations. To face a team who are regulars in the Champions League will provide us with exactly the type of test we need ahead of the new season and we look forward to the fixture."
