New Bristol Academy manager Dave Edmondson has made Welsh international defender Sophie Ingle his first signing at the club as he builds his team for the 2014 season.
Ingle spent 2012-2013 at Chelsea Ladies FC and said about the move to Bristol: "I think it was time for a new challenge and I am happy to have signed for Bristol Academy this season. Bristol are a very successful and hard working team, they have a good team spirit and a lot of character which is what appealed to we when signing."
Much of the Vixens' success last season was down to team spirit and work ethic, and Sophie feels she has these characteristics: "I believe I have the willingness to improve and think I can bring passion and composure to the team. The club feels very welcoming; there is a lot of support and backing from the club and most importantly the supporters. I am looking forward to the competitive season to start."
Vixens manager Dave Edmondson added: "Sophie comes with FA WSL experience at Chelsea. She is a strong and confident midfield player positive and all round good character which fits in with the Bristol Academy philosophy. The squad were successful last year, and the majority are back this year, any additions will need to be of real quality and fit in with the current club culture."
Sophie began her career at Cardiff City and won her first senior cap as a youngster before moving on to Chelsea, where she played in the 2012 F.A.Women's Cup Final as her side narrowly went down on penalties to Birmingham City.
