Caernarfon crowned FAW Girls Champions - 6 Apr 2014 - Women's Football NewsCaernarfon Town have beaten Llanyrafon Ladies 2-0 in the FAW Under-16 Girls Cup Final at Newtown on Sunday afternoon.
Dei Pritchard's side from North Wales made the perfect start when Wales Under-16 international Lois Regan scored after just four minutes.
Regan, a striker, caused the Llani' defence problems all half with her pace and she was narrowly denied by the post midway through the first period.
The lead was extended in the 26th minute when Regan turned provider and Nel Huws finished well to double the advantage.
Llanyrafon boss Kevin Sims made a change at half time, allowing the squad's two goalkeepers to share the match and Jodie Buck was straight into the heart of the action as she saved well from Regan.
As the match went on, the side from Gwent dominated possession with captain Georgia Groves pulling the strings from midfield, whilst defensive duo Kate Webb and Amy Sims thwarted any threat that Caernarfon offered. Just before the hour though, Regan sliced through the defence but she agonizingly pushed the ball wide of Buck's post to miss another opportunity to put the match beyond Llanyrafon.
Llani' battled to the end and although they deserved a goal, it wasn't forthcoming and Caernarfon maintained their clean sheet and were deservedly crowned Welsh Champions. Wales Under-15 girls coach Nicola Anderson named Caernarfon's Wales international Chloe Hughes as the Player of the Match.
