Gillingham open up gap
 Women's Football News 7 Apr 2014
Gillingham open up gap - 7 Apr 2014 - Women's Football NewsGillingham are stretching the pace once again at the top and lead by four points following their 3-1 victory over Charlton Athletic.
Charlotte Gurr and Fliss Gibbons both scored to put the Gills two ahead and Jade Keogh added the third just ahead of the interval. Charlton had gone into the game on a six-match unbeaten run and reduced the arrears in the second half through Kit Graham but Gillingham saw the game out for a crucial win.
Cardiff City Ladies received a setback as they were beaten 2-1 by Coventry City, who stepped up their own title challenge. Cardiff did get off to a flying start when Kayleigh Green gave them the lead with just two minutes on the clock but in the second half, Rebecca Anderson and Maz Gauntlett both scored to help the Sky Blues avenge their defeat to Cardiff in the Premier League Cup semi finals seven days earlier.
Cardiff's defeat gave Portsmouth the chance to go second in the table, which they duly accepted by winning 2-1 away to Keynsham Town. Fiona McMillan opened the scoring for Pompey midway through the first half and Charley Wilson added the second early after the break, both from Molly Clark corners. Hari Sabic pulled one back for the home side from the penalty spot but Portsmouth closed the game out to get themselves back on the winning track.
Tottenham Hotspur cemented themselves in mid-table thanks to a 3-1 victory over West Ham Utd. Bianca Baptiste netted the only goal of the first half for Spurs and after the break, Andrea Marcocci doubled their lead. Kelley Blanchflower gave the Hammers hope when she netted with eight minutes left but Marcocci scored her second to wrap up the win for Spurs.
It is all over though for Chesham Utd who are relegated following their 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton & Hove Albion. Tammy Waine bagged a first half brace to help the Seagulls continue their resurgence in form and although Gemma Fraser replied for Chesham after the break, John Donoghue's side closed the game out for their second straight win.
