Glasgow City to host music gig
 Women's Football News 10 Apr 2014
Glasgow City to host music gig - 10 Apr 2014 - Women's Football NewsScotland's top women's football club and the official Scottish Team of the Year, Glasgow City FC, are hosting an acoustic music gig at Glad Café in Shawlands on Easter Sunday to help raise funds for competing in the UEFA Women's Champions League first round later this year.
The Glad Café, situated in the popular southside Shawlands area, has very quickly become one of the coolest gig venues in the City and three very talented artists have all agreed to perform the gig at their own expense for the Scottish Champions.
Headlining is Glasgow-born singer songwriter Sharon Martin. After a time as lead vocalist in various groups, including as front-woman for Grammy winning record producer Stephen Lironi's project, 'Flesh', Martin recently began to put more time into being a solo artist and performs self penned tracks around the UK.
Commenting on why she is playing this gig for Glasgow City, she said: "I'm playing this gig because I believe in Glasgow City. I believe in the vision and drive of their management team. I believe they will win the Women's Champions League in the not so distant future, and one day be a household name throughout the whole of Europe. They are putting women's football firmly on the map in Scotland.
"The training and development implemented at the club is clearly a major contributing factor to the rise in the standard of the Scottish women's national squad, resulting in Scotland's current highest ever FIFA ranking, at 19 in the world. If I could make even the smallest contribution to that vision and achievement, then I think that is a great thing."
As well as enjoying Sharon Martin, the audience will also enjoy the sounds of Lynnie Carson who has supported Paulo Nutini, Aberfeldy and Ocean Colour Scene. The third act performing on the night is Italian born, Glasgow living artist Manuel Yepez Corsetti.
The gig starts at 7.30pm on Sunday 20th April at the Glad Café, Shawlands. Tickets are priced £10 each and can be purchased in advance from www.glasgowcityladiesfc.co.uk or from the door on the night.
