Bedford Ladies and Luton Town met each other in the Bedfordshire County Cup Final for the third year in succession with the sides sharing one win apiece in previous meetings.
There is a huge amount of respect between these clubs as both share the same ethos and principles of developing players from a young age through to open age.
First blood was to Luton who pressed hard and were on the attack scoring an early goal in the first half. It was one of the youngest member's of the team, Chloe Scott, 'Scottie', who led the comeback for Bedford with a goal on the rebound and this was followed by a second goal from Becca Vass.
For much of the rest of the match it seemed to be going Bedford's way as they finished the first half 2-1 up and went into the second half with the advantage. Bedford continued to defend well but a late goal by Luton levelled the score and the match ended at 2-2.
This meant It then went to the dreaded and nailbiting penalty shootout. For the Carroll family It was a particularly tense and excruciating match to watch as two of their daughters were playing, Zara Carroll for Luton Ladies and Shannon Carroll for Bedford Ladies. Lauren Webb, the Bedford goalie, coached by Howard Fisher, then came into her own making two amazing saves and Bedford won 5-4.
