Loughborough Students ended Copsewood (Coventry)'s hopes of a trophy treble by beating them 4-2 in the Midland Combination Cup Final at Stafford Rangers F.C.
Copsewood were dealt an early blow when losing Erika Mole to a knee injury and found Loughborough in great form, racing into a three-goal lead. The Champions managed to rally before the break though and reduced the deficit to one as Kirstie Deacon and Natalie Dean both scored.
Loughborough were forced to play with ten players after the break due to a sending off but kept possession well as they held on to their lead. Copsewood stepped up the pressure as they sought an equaliser but Loughborough rode out the storm and netted a decisive fourth goal with fifteen minutes remaining.
Laura Williams netted two of the goals for Loughborough, with Jodie Allard and Siobhan Eastham joining her on the scoresheet. The result rounded off a good season for the students who finished sixth in the league - just two points behind third place - and also reached the Leicestershire County Cup Final.
