Suzanne Grant scored a goal in each half as Keynsham Town lifted the Somerset Senior Women's Cup with a 2-0 victory over Brislington in the Final at Bishop Sutton.
The Premier League side's greater strength and experience told in the end but the South West League Eastern Division team acquitted themselves very well and stayed in the game until the end.
The opening stages were evenly contested with Brislington looking to rely on their pace up front but the better of the chances went Keynsham's way. Leanne Lapham was unable to steer home the rebound after Katarzyna Rusek's shot had been parried and the striker also volleyed over from close range, although an offside flag had been raised.
Brislington responded with Sophie Whelan, who was behind most of their best moments, firing over the bar but Keynsham opened the scoring as Justine Carrard slid a good ball into the path of Grant, who held off the attentions of a Brislington defender before drilling an angled shot beyond the dive of Wheeler and just inside the far post.
It was nearly two just moments later but Lapham's shot was turned over the bar by Wheeler.
After the break, Keynsham started the quicker of the two sides and Grant was close to a second when she was picked out by Rusek's chipped pass and tried to lob home but once again Wheeler came to the rescue with an excellent save.
However in the 62nd minute, Olivera Markovic played the ball behind the Brislington defence and Lapham was brought down in the area by the advancing Wheeler and a penalty was awarded. Grant stepped up and duly found the roof of the net to double her side's lead.
There was a scare for Keynsham at the other end as goalkeeper Gwyn West momentarily spilled a free kick from Whelan but did well to recover and gather as three Brislington players closed in. At the other end, Markovic was in good form on the wing with a number of good runs and crosses but Keynsham could not add to their lead, Aimee Clark going closest when her free kick was deflected just wide.
Brislington kept going with Zoe Gunter impressing in midfield and Hollie Hearnden working hard on the left but Keynsham stood firm and closed the game out for a well earned victory.
