Atkinson to officiate at Cup Final
 Women's Football News 15 May 2014

FIFA and Premier League referee, Martin Atkinson, has been chosen to referee the FA Women's Cup Final which will be contested by Arsenal and Everton.

The showpiece match of the women's football season takes place at MK Dons' home ground, stadiummk, on Sunday 1st June.

Atkinson (West Riding) will be joined by assistant referees Lindsey Robinson (Durham) and Mark Dwyer (West Riding), while Rebecca Welch (Durham) will be the fourth official.

The match, which kicks off at 4.30pm, will be shown live on BBC Two. Arsenal and Everton secured their places after overcoming Chelsea and Notts County in the semi finals last Sunday. Arsenal will be looking to defend the trophy after beating Bristol Academy 3-0 in last year's final whilst Everton will be hoping for a repeat of their last Cup Final appearance, where they defeated Arsenal 3-2 in extra time.

Sue Hough MBE, Chair of the FA Women's Committee, said: "The FA Women's Cup Final is one of, if not the biggest match in the women's domestic calendar and to have a referee of Martin Atkinson's calibre officiating the match really highlights the importance of the game.

"It's also pleasing to see two women officials involved in the match, which reflects the excellent progress that has been made around women referees, across the men's and women's games.

"Officials such as Sian Massey and Amy Fearn, working in the men's game, are a real inspiration to our 900-plus female referees in this country and it's great to see a mixture of men and women officiating across in the FA WSL, the FA Women's Cup and also in the men's game.

"The stage is certainly set for an excellent Cup Final."

English officials Sian Massey and Natalie Walker have been appointed as assistant referees for the FIFA Women's Under-20 World Cup, which will take place in Canada from 29 July - 24 August 2014.

The FA Girls' Youth Cup Final will take place before the main final (KO 1.30pm) in a football double header. Tickets, which are valid for both matches, are on sale now priced from £6 for adults and £3 for children. A family ticket (two adults and two children) is also available and priced from £15.

Tickets are available from www.mkdons.com/tickets or (01908) 622 900.
