Bedford Ladies clinched the Eastern Region League Premier Division title on Sunday after winning 3-0 away to Haringey Borough.
Bedford have finished within the top four teams of the Eastern Region Women's Football League over the past seven years and twice have finished second, in 2011 by only one point, so Sunday's victory over Haringey gave them the well deserved first place in the league the promotion they have been so actively seeking.
It was not a done deal as the first half at Haringey finished goalless but the ladies found that last little bit of end of season spirit and with Lauren Webb, the Bedford goalie keeping a clean sheet and Ella Meadowcroft, Chloe Scott and Lucy Bateman all managing to score a goal each this gave Bedford the win they needed to clinch the title.
Many of the players have come through our youth system namely, Tash Fensome, the Ladies and Club captain who came to Bedford when she was only nine.
Three of the ladies playing on Sunday only turned 16 this year, Cyeanne Eaton, Chelsea Hunter and Chloe Scott with many of the others being 17 and 18 along with a few older and more experienced players to give a good balance to the team.
The club is very proud of our Ladies' achievements this year winning the double having secured the County Cup and now the league title. Going forward they are very excited about next season.
