We talk to...Paige Shorten (Norwich City) - 23 May 2014 - Women's Football NewsNorwich City rounded off their season with a 4-3 victory over C & K Basildon in the South East Combination League Cup Final.
Winger Paige Shorten, who scored the winning goal for Norwich on the day, talked to us about her delight at winning the cup as well as their third place finish in the league, and her optimism ahead of next season:
Congratulations on winning the League Cup, how good an achievement was it for the club?
This is a great achievement for Norwich City Ladies, all of the girls have worked so hard this season building up to the League Cup Final. We beat Enfield in the semi final, which was a tough game, and in both games I feel we showed great desire and passion on the day to bring the cup home!!

Our reporter described it as a 'thrilling' game, what was it like to play in?
The atmosphere on the day was very nerve wracking for each team but must have been a thrilling game to watch! It was end-to-end with both teams trying their hardest to win the game and in the end I'm sure both teams can say it was a very good showcase game for all spectators watching.

You had to come from behind twice, surely that showed great character from the team?
I have played for Norwich City Ladies for a number of seasons now and the character shown on this day was outstanding from our ladies, we never gave up and we showed true desire to come back even if we did leave it quite late in the game.

Can you recall the moment when you scored the winner?
The moment Emily Lewin played a great pass over the top of C & K Basildon's defenders, I was one-on-one with the goalkeeper where I lobbed her and within seconds of the ball hitting the back of the net, I was bundled by ten other Norwich City players to celebrate!!!

The goalscorers will take the headlines but do you think that any other players deserve praise for their performance, or was it an all round team effort?
I personally feel it was a great team performance shown by our ladies. Every player should be proud of their performance on the day as it was outstanding, I wouldn't be able to pick out players separately as everybody deserves praise for their input on the day.

A third place finish and two trophies won, are you satisfied overall with the way the season went?
Norwich City Ladies have had a great season and we should all be happy overall. Every player has played their part this season to help us reach this great ending. This includes Scott Emmerson, our manager, who has been very committed to support our development this season and from all the players we would like to thank Scott and the rest of the coaching staff for this.

Are you confident that the club can build on this and make a challenge next season in the new look Premier League?
I'm very confident that Norwich City Ladies can build from this season, they have set very high standards but I'm sure going into the Premier League will excite other players to join our team to build our strength into next season.
