Belles stay top with a Little help
 Women's Football News 25 May 2014
Yeovil Town 1 (Whitton 55) Doncaster Rovers Belles 2 (Little 41,61)
Doncaster Rovers Belles go into the mid-season break top of WSL2 after a hard fought 2-1 victory at Yeovil Town.
Leandra Little's brace either side of Kirsty Whitton's good strike meant that Gordon Staniforth's side's 100% start to the campaign remains intact.
In what was a scrappy opening, Victoria Williams looped a cross just wide of the post before Sue Smith fired over from range. The visitors began to control the game in the midfield but Yeovil still threatened on the counter with Laura Bray forcing Nicola Hobbs into action.
Jess Sigsworth and Rhiannon Roberts both had chances to break the deadlock but Yeovil held firm at the back. But the Belles remained on top and Lauren Cresswell almost put her side in front but only saw her stunning strike crash back off the bar.
An opening goal did come for the Belles on 41minutes when another set piece worked well for the Belles. A corner from the right was delivered perfectly for Little to meet at the near post to give Rachel Simkin in the Yeovil goal no chance.
The break seemed to lift the home side though and shortly after half time Yeovil were back level. The Belles failed to clear a ball into the box fully and Whitton rifled it past Hobbs into the top corner.
However, Staniforth's side showed resilience and were back in front soon after. Again, Smith's corner brilliantly picked out Little who glanced the ball over Simkin as the captain was leading by example.
The 250-strong crowd were being treated to a great game at Sherborne and Yeovil battled to get a second equaliser but couldn't find the decisive ball past a solid Belles back line. Williams tried to add a speculative third late on but her looping effort couldn't catch Simkin out.
Once again the Belles saw out the game to gain another vital three points and stay top of the WSL2 table going into the mid-season break.
