Preston North End achieved the highest finish in the club's history when a 5-0 victory over Bradford City secured the runners-up spot in the Northern Division.
The two clubs went into the game with second place up for grabs whilst a draw would have been enough on the day for Bradford. However it was Preston who got off to a good start when Beth Stansfield headed in a free kick by Alison Taberner and Katie Anderton added a second just after the half hour. Gemma Watson further increased Preston's lead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time.
Watson scored her second via a 35-yard lob five minutes into the second half and the striker rounded off a great day for her side by completing her hat-trick with a fine individual goal.
Preston therefore take a top two place to add to a County Cup success as well as reaching the semi finals of the Premier League Cup, whilst Bradford finished third in their first season in the league following promotion.
In the Southern Division, Cardiff City Ladies made sure of a third place finish as the final game of the season ended in a 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic.
On the day that Coventry City won the title, Cardiff, who had been major contenders throughout the season, took an early lead through Nicola Cousins which they held going into half time.
Kit Graham levelled the scores early in the second half with her tenth league goal of the season but Cardiff soon restored their lead when Michelle Green found the net. However with twelve minutes remaining, Sam Pittuck ensured that the Addicks took a share of the spoils when she scored from the penalty spot.
