Hibernian and Glasgow City set for Final
 Women's Football News 28 May 2014

Hibernian and Glasgow City go head to head on Wednesday evening in the first battle for silverware of 2014 as the teams line up at Ainslie Park in the SWPL League Cup Final.

City defeated Aberdeen and Hibernian overcame Celtic in respective semi finals to set up a nail biting encounter between Scotland's highest achieving sides.

With the two teams yet to meet so far this season, there is much anticipation surrounding the game. For Hibernian, they will look to seek revenge for their narrow 1-0 Scottish Cup Final defeat at the hands of City last year and for City, the aim is to win their third League Cup in succession.

Hibernian will be without Lucy Graham and Siobhan Hunter with both players suspended for the match. City meanwhile are expected to list the same squad that faced Rangers on Sunday, with the exception of recent signing Susan Fairlie who is cup tied.

Commenting on the final, City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black said: "We are delighted to be competing in our third straight League Cup Final. The past two years have seen us play Spartans in the final and they again play a part today, albeit this time as hosts.

"Whilst we have faced Hibernian several times in the Scottish Cup Final over the years I can only recall one League Cup Final when we have met each other. There is no doubt that today's Final is between the two most successful clubs in the modern era. In fact, a quick glance at the previous Finals shows that only once in the history of this competition has either Hibernian or ourselves not been in the Final. That is a remarkable record of the consistency that both clubs have shown over the years.

"We know we face a very difficult opponent tonight and playing in Edinburgh should ensure they have a great turnout to support them. We are well aware of the threat Hibs can cause us and need no reminding of the last time we lost in this competition. They have many up and coming players who will no doubt have good careers. The squad carries a great team spirit as a number of them are also team mates at international level.

"An added incentive for us if we needed one is to rewrite the record books. History shows that no team has ever won the League Cup three years in a row. I am sure the contrasting styles will make for an exciting game. We will set out to play as we always play, dominating the ball and trying to score goals whilst Hibs will play for quick counter attacks. I hope we can continue our love affair with the League Cup and retain it with an entertaining performance."

The final kicks off at 7.30pm at Ainslie Park, home of Spartans FC. Entry is via cash gate, £5 adults, £2 children/concessions.
