Fleet sail into new waters - 3 Jun 2014 - Women's Football News

Fleet Town will have Regional League football to look forward to next season after winning the Hampshire County Women's League title.

The team was formed as Fleet Town Girls FC and had grown from its first Under-9s team to a point where the players had finished youth football. Two of the current first team squad were in the first Under-9s team. Fleet Town Girls and Ladies FC now has age groups from Little Flyers (4 to 6 year olds) and from Under-9s to Under-18s.

Fleet Town Ladies was formed for the 2009-10 season and has had great success since it was formed, promoted in the club's first season from Hampshire County Women's League Division 4 and winning the Junior League Cup.

Promotion was also achieved in each of the following two campaigns and last season, their first in Division One, they finished in fifth place and reached the Final of the Aldershot Divisional Cup.

This season, after winning their two opening games, they lost the next two against Shanklin Res and QK Southampton before going unbeaten in the league for the remainder of the campaign, winning 13 out of 14 games and drawing the other.

The team is managed by Kevin Jordan with Joe Webster as Coach and Rae Roberts is captain. Joanne Harfield netted 26 times to finish on top of the division's goalscoring charts.

Manager Kevin Jordan told Women's Soccer Scene: "One of our season's highlights was beating Shanklin Res 3-2 in our return meeting after losing the first game to them.

"The best team performance was in the North Hants Divisional Cup Final against Southern Region League Premier side Basingstoke Town, taking them to 1-1 at full time before losing 2-1 after extra time. The most important game was beating BTC Southampton 1-0, with only eleven players available, to win the league title."

Fleet rounded off the season with a 5-2 victory over runners-up Winchester City Flyers, to finish an impressive eight points clear at the top of the table.

Next season Fleet will be competing in Division One of the Southern Region League and are looking for more players for the coming season. Please contact Kevin Jordan on (07986) 385252 or e-mail kevin.jordan@ntlworld.com for further information.
