The recent announcement by the Fulham Football Club Foundation that it will be running two ladies teams, based in Guildford, Surrey, is exciting and most welcome news for women's football in the wider area. With the full support of the Foundation, the teams, which have grown from the solid base given by Westfield Ladies, will provide a boost to grass roots football in the region and give a superb opportunity for talented players to take the club onwards and upwards. They will be able to play and train at the magnificent Surrey Sports Park in Guildford, recently host to the BUCS 'Big Wednesday' multi-sport event, whose facilities have been described as world class. The club chairman, Steve Kick is delighted with the progress made so far. He already has in place a talented and experienced team taking charge of the squads next season. Craig Little, with experience at Chelsea with their Ladies reserve team and centre of excellence, is first team manager and will be assisted by Dave Newland, formerly with Chelsea CoE and Reading Ladies, as goalkeeping coach and Asa Warner who has worked at Aldershot Town CoE and in the USA. The firsts will play in the London and South-East Region Women's Premier League against clubs such as Maidstone United, Crawley Wasps and London Corinthians. Timo Cato, from the Fulham Foundation and who so ably assisted Westfield last season, will be in charge of the reserves playing in the Surrey County Women's League. New manager Little has said he is 'relishing the challenge' and expects to hold two training sessions each week which will include fitness, strength and conditioning and nutrition sessions, as well as the usual ball work. Craig has organised an open training session at Guildford on Thursday June 26th at 7.30pm for all existing squad members and new players who want to 'buy in' to this golden opportunity. He feels the 'package' offered would ideally suit players who have had Premier League and Combination level experience. Prospective players are welcome to introduce themselves on the 26th or at subsequent pre-season training sessions. If you are interested in joining the Fulham Foundation Ladies do not hesitate to contact Craig on (07890) 454333 or e-mail craigblittle@yahoo.co.uk or Steve at stephen.kick1@btinternet.com.
