Female Level One success in Tower Hamlets
 Women's Football News 10 Jun 2014
Female Level One success in Tower Hamlets - 10 Jun 2014 - Women's Football NewsFifteen women recently took their first steps onto the coaching ladder during the May half term hosted at Mile End Stadium in partnership with the London FA and Tower Hamlets Sports Development.
Through funding from the FA and UEFA Women's Football BAME Fund, a Female Coach Mentoring project in Tower Hamlets has been set up to encourage more women particularly from BAME groups to get involved in coaching. The project provides women the opportunity to get onto the coaching ladder and achieve their FA Level 1. Following this a Youth Module 1 course will run in September and suitable candidates will be identified to receive mentoring within a club environment.
The course was intense as it ran over four days; however the group worked tirelessly and gained their reward at the end, as all 15 candidates passed, which is a fantastic achievement.
The next steps for these women will be to look to progress onto their Youth Module 1 of which a course will be running at Mile End, Tower Hamlets, for females only in September.
Emma Barnes, Women's & Girls' FDO, London FA says: "It is great to have had a successful application with the FA and UEFA Women's Football BAME Fund. This project is something which is greatly needed in East London and by working closely with Derek Bennett, Senior Football Development Officer for Tower Hamlets we are able to offer something which is unique to women in the area.
"The women worked tirelessly over the four days and have now taken the first step towards becoming a coach which is a great achievement."
This course will be the start of a longer journey for a lot of the women and it is hoped that by completing this course the candidates will be inspired to take it further and move onto other courses.
