Glovers' praise for Pen Mill

Glovers' praise for Pen Mill - 10 Jun 2014 - Women's Football News

Yeovil-based club Pen Mill Ladies FC have been praised by their Super League neighbours, Yeovil Town Ladies.

Pen Mill are looking to capitalise on the surge in participation in women's football by expanding their player numbers ready for the 2014-15 season and the Glovers are urging local women to get involved with the club.

Yeovil Town Ladies FC Chairman David Mills said: "Pen Mill is a great club and whilst our third team will be playing against them next season, off the pitch we fully back their plans for growth. I would urge anyone who thinks they might be interested to contact them and try out for their team."

Mills was also keen to stress the importance of clubs like Pen Mill when he said: "The Women's Super League - the FA WSL- is vital to the future of the women's game and we are proud to be part of it. However the FA WSL is the tip of the iceberg and the game depends on great clubs like Pen Mill Ladies FC. As there are many more girls playing football now, it is important that they continue to play at adult level. Teams like Pen Mill offer a great opportunity to do that."

Pen Mill secretary Grace Channing added: "At Pen Mill we are a mixed ability team and are very keen to welcome women or girls who are new to the sport or who may have played before and are looking to get back into it.

"We have some really exciting plans in place for our pre-season training which will be great for anyone looking to improve their fitness and have fun at the same time. We have a new management team for the 2014-15 season and have new coaches on board who are all very keen to work with us to have a really enjoyable and successful season.

"We would like congratulate Yeovil Ladies on their brilliant start to their season in the WSL and praise them for putting the local area on the map in terms of women's football. We look forward to working with them to give ladies in the local area the opportunity to play football at all levels.

"Anyone who may be interested or who would like further information is welcome to e-mail myself at penmill-ladies@hotmail.co.uk."
