Michelle equals Wales caps record
 Women's Football News 21 Jun 2014
Michelle equals Wales caps record - 21 Jun 2014 - Women's Football NewsMidfielder Michelle Green equalled the Wales cap record against Belarus in Minsk on Thursday evening.
The substitute appearance was the 92nd cap for Michelle, matching the record of goalkeeper Neville Southall.
Now with Cardiff City Ladies, Michelle has played for Newport County, Merthyr Tydfil, Bristol Rovers and Bristol Academy during her senior career.
She made her international debut as a substitute against Scotland in the 2001-02 season and has been a regular squad member ever since. Her debut came at 18 years 313 days and she was the 59th player to be capped by Wales since the side was reformed in the 1993-94 season.
In addition to her senior caps, she won 7 caps at Under-16 level from 1996-97 to 1998-99, whilst playing for BP, Mountain Ash and Newport Strikers and another 11 caps at Under-18 level with Newport Strikers and Newport County between 1999-2000 and 2000-01.
Still an important part of Jarmo Matikainen's squad in this current World Cup qualifying campaign, Michelle's experience is invaluable to the squad and she will be hoping to help get Wales over the finishing line in the early Autumn with two final qualifying matches - at home to England at the Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday 21st August (7.05pm) and away to the Ukraine on 17th September.
If Wales can win the group, qualification for Canada 2015 is assured whilst a second place finish could be good enough to qualify for the play-offs later in the autumn. The best four runner-up sides from the seven European groups will be matched for a first pair of play-off games. The two winners of those matches will then play each other home and away for the final qualifying spot for the 2015 Summer Finals.
For Michelle and Wales there is also a friendly fixture in Scotland on 3rd August at Dumfries as a warm up game, in which she could become the most capped Wales footballer of all time. It would be a proud moment for a player who has always conducted herself in an exemplary manner when on international duty and has been an inspiration to those around her with her 100% commitment - both to her clubs and country.
