France maintained their impressive start in the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup with a 4-0 win against New Zealand at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal.
Following on from their opening victory over Costa Rica, France led at the interval through a Kadidiatou Diani goal midway through the first half. Claire Lavogez doubled their lead seven minutes into the second half and substitute Clarisse Le Bihan put the gloss on the result by scoring twice in the last ten minutes.
France are not quite confirmed as being in the quarter finals yet, due to Paraguay winning 2-1 against Costa Rica in the other group game. Silvana Romero gave Paraguay the lead with four minutes on the clock but Costa Rica battled back and equalised just before the half hour when Michelle Montero scored from close range.
Both sides had good chances after the break but with two minutes remaining, Paraguay were handed a glorious opportunity when Maribel Portillo was upended by goalkeeper Noerelia Bermudez in the area and a penalty was awarded. Jennifer Mora duly sent Bermudez the wrong way from the spot to keep her side's qualifying hopes alive.
Nigeria are the leaders of Group C, going into the last round of matches, after they defeated South Korea 2-1. The damage was done in the first half with Courtney Dike putting the Nigerians ahead in the opening minute of the game and Chinwendu Ihezuo fired home the second before the break. Kim Soyi pulled one back for the Koreans midway through the second half but Nigeria held on under late pressure and require a draw from their last match against England in order to guarantee a place in the last eight.
