Hosts Canada dramatically booked their place in the quarter finals of the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup after beating Korea DPR 1-0.
The Canadians needed nothing less than a victory to stand any chance of going through and faced the group winners elect at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal. In the end a solitary goal midway through the second half from Janine Beckie proved to be just enough to get Canada into second place, behind Korea DPR on goal difference.
Canadian joy meant anguish for Ghana who also ended up on six points but go out of the tournament despite coming from behind to win 2-1 against Finland in Moncton. Juliette Kemppi had put the Finns in front early in the second half with Sherifatu Sumaila equalising before Jennifer Cudjoe scored a late winner for Ghana.
Germany are the winners of Group B and will play Canada in the quarter finals, although they did trail at half time before a second half goal blitz saw them to a 5-1 victory over Brazil. Carol gave the Brazilians the lead four minutes before the interval, while the Germans missed a penalty in first half injury time. However after the break, Sara Dabtriz soon levelled the scores and went on to bag a hat-trick in total with Pauline Bremer adding the other two goals.
United States also held their nerve to book their place in the last eight with a comfortable 3-0 win against China. The USA never looked back after Lindsey Horan netted a first half brace and Rose Lavelle wrapped up the win four minutes into the second half to confirm a quarter final meeting with Korea DPR.
