Loughborough Foxes had a good season in the Midland Combination last time around and are seeking to continue this when they play in the FA Women's Premier League Midlands Division One.
As a club, they are really looking forward to the new season having made several changes over the close season. The departure of Assistant Coach Jenny Sugarman to take over the Head Coach role at Derby County shows the progress that the Foxes have made not only in developing players but also in helping develop their coaching staff.
With Jen's departure, Head Coach Steve Wilkinson searched for replacements to cover pre-season and then onwards into the new FAWPL Midlands Division One. For 2014, Steve will be assisted by Laura Steele (who had a ACL operation in April) while for pre-season he brought in two Level Two qualified coaches in Jimmy Chambers from Leicester and Ben Scott from Loughborough. Steve has also added Danny Sharpe to help develop the goalkeepers at first and reserve level. In Steve's absence in July, the new coaching staff have improved the fitness levels, technique and tactical awareness and also been tasked with developing the overall team spirit of the squad ready for the new campaign. These are all areas Steve felt needed improving from last season.
New players have also arrived to add depth to the Foxes squad that finished mid-table in the Midland Combination last season, while several others have returned to the Foxes following injury. The strong youth programme is also likely to provide high quality players for the long term future but like any club, the Foxes continue to look for new players who will further improve the playing squad depth and quality.
Last season the club secured a new shirt sponsor in Loughborough College but is looking for a club tracksuit and match day t-shirt sponsor for this season.
Loughborough Foxes begin the new season with a home game against Leicester City WFC on Sunday 24th August at the Loughborough University Football Stadium.
