New Cambridge Women manager Steve Edwards is pleased with his team's preparations ahead of the start of the new FA Women's Premier League season this weekend.
Cambridge will be members of the newly formed South East Division One and Steve admitted to Women's Soccer Scene that he is looking forward to the challenge. "The summer has been good," he said. "I've been in charge at Cambridge for a month now, during which I've been pleased with how the players have responded to training. It takes time to implement new ideas on the pitch and will continue to do so, but the attitude has been great.
"We've so far made one signing - Becky Russell has signed from Thorpe Ladies, who is an exciting winger with a great delivery into the box. We are talking to two or three other potential signings, so I hope to be able to announce more before the league kick off. We have had two friendlies so far, a 5-1 defeat to Stoke City and a 3-2 win over Moulton, and have two friendlies remaining against Bar Hill and Watford Development.
"One bit of exciting news is that we managed to secure brand new home and away kits thanks to our new sponsorship with local company Sepura and we have a number of other sponsorship opportunities open.
"We have established a link with Anglia Ruskin University, through which we hope to grow our staff structure and there are ongoing talks behind the scenes to further cement our relationship with the local men's sides in the area."
Cambridge open their season on Sunday with a home match against Enfield Town at Ely City FC (2pm).
