Lindsey takes charge at Middlesbrough
 Women's Football News 20 Aug 2014

Lindsey takes charge at Middlesbrough - 20 Aug 2014 - Women's Football NewsMiddlesbrough are pleased to announce that Lindsey Stephenson has been announced as their new manager ahead of the team's first season in FA Women's Premier League Northern Division One.

Marrie Wieczorek, manager of the ladies team for over 20 years, will also be returning to the club as chairman as the team strengthens the team in all areas as well as on the pitch.

Lindsey said: "Marrie IS Middlesbrough Ladies and I am really pleased that she has joined us in this new stage of club development and awareness. She nurtured me when I was playing and knows a lot of the girls already. In the few weeks since she's been back, there's already been a great buzz within the team."

Marrie admitted the decision was an easy one. "My time as Middlesbrough manager obviously gave me the chance to know some of the current team from their early career," she said. "People like Sarah Manning, Kelly Smith, Clare Helm and Nicky Duckling were regulars in my side and it is great to see how they have developed as players over the years."

Lindsey is forward to the season, saying: "We have had a really good off-season and there has been lots to take as we head into the league season. Our trials showcased several players, I have been able to add to the squad and I know that everyone that gets selected to play will give total dedication."

Marrie added: "We are looking forward to welcoming Norton & Stockton Ancients this season as for the first time they are in the same league as us. It will be good occasion for fans of the women's game in the area to see the standards in the area.

"The women's game has certainly changed a lot since I first started, there's much more awareness, the level of support has increased and the decision to allow Hartlepool to host an England friendly shows the passion and love the area has for the sport.

"Opportunities for girls to get involved are strong especially with Middlesbrough College and Teesside Uni helping and supporting in this area."

Middlesbrough begin their season on Sunday 24th August against Mossley Hill at Thornaby's Teesdale Park with a 2pm kick off. Middlesbrough Ladies' Official Website is at www.mfcladies.co.uk which provides the latest news, match reports and pictures from the club.
