Blackburn Rovers midfielder Amie Fleming has expressed her delight after being named captain for the 2014-15 season.
The former Liverpool Ladies star only joined the club in September, but made such a positive impression on manager Gemma Donnelly that she has been handed the armband.
Amie hopes to take her new responsibilities in her stride and lead the new look Rovers team to a successful season. "I was very pleased, but a little bit shocked, because I only came in midway through last season and there are a lot of former players here who have spent numerous years with the club," she said.
"But I'm delighted with what Gemma saw in me. It's a massive responsibility, but the captaincy is only an armband and I don't want it to affect my performances. That said, I know I need to step up to the plate in terms of my communication and leadership, so I will take it as it comes.
"On and off the field, it's important that the whole squad is as one. I want to make sure that everyone is on the same page, has the same mentality and is ready to go in every game.
"We've got a much stronger squad this season and we are certainly in it to win it. We didn't get off to the best of starts, but we move on and I am still confident we can have a positive season."
Gemma Donnelly said: "Amie epitomises everything that Blackburn Rovers is as a club. She's hard working, skilful, committed, a great role model and a genuinely nice character. She has been given the task of leading an experienced team, but I have no doubt she will be an excellent leader."
