F.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
Wakefield FC Ladies were originally formed as Morley Girls, 25 years ago, by Neil Fotherby and his daughter, Louise. Five years later they were re-named Morley Spurs and competed in the Yorkshire & Humberside League.
The club progressed and worked its way up through the leagues and in 2007-08, they experienced their best season to date. They won the Premier Division title by a margin of nine points, losing only once all season, and with it were promoted to the Northern Combination.
On moving up to Combination League football, the club changed its name once again to Wakefield FC Ladies but they were never quite able to keep their progress going at that level. After six years in the Northern Combination, last season was a difficult one for the team and they were relegated back to the North East League Premier Division. They are now looking to consolidate the team in the league this season.
The club's founder, Neil Fotherby, is still very much present in the General Manager's role with Rich Lumb as Manager/Coach and the Goalkeeping Coach is Mike Middleton. The team captain is Dee Parker, who has been with the club for a number of years.
Wakefield FC Ladies would like to thank their main sponsors, SPEC Ltd, who are based in Wakefield.
Wakefield have started the league season well with a 5-3 victory over Tynedale in their opening match last weekend. However, their interest in the Southern League Cup has come to an end after they were beaten by Barnsley, having won against Ossett Albion in the previous round.
Malet Lambert YC have been members of the North East League since 2011, when they carried off the East Riding County Women's League title the season before. The won the title by beating AFC Preston in a Championship Play-off after the teams had finished level on points and they rounded off a great campaign by also winning the League Cup with a 4-2 victory over Hunmanby in the Final.
They duly won promotion to the Southern Division of the North East League and after finishing fourth in their first campaign, they bettered it last season with a third place finish. They also reached the Final of the East Riding County Cup where they were narrowly defeated 5-4 by Hull City.
The team is managed by Andy Warvill with Steve Tanser as Coach and Ellie Tanser as captain, and they got off to a good start to the new season last Sunday by winning their first match, 5-1 against Dearne & District.
