Reading stretch unbeaten run
 Women's Football News 7 Sep 2014
Durham Women 0 Reading FC Women 3 (Williams 63, Kirby 82,87)
Reading extended their unbeaten run to 12 games at the expense of Durham in a superb 3-0 win on Sunday afternoon.
Cheryl Williams opened the scoring in the second half with her fourth goal of the season. Fran Kirby continued her incredible season with another brace to round off a brilliant three wins in nine days for the Royals.
Reading started off strongly with Fran Kirby looking bright from kick off, creating many attacking moves. The front three of Bianca Bragg, Lauren Bruton and Kirby worked a lovely move only for Durham keeper Anne Moorhouse to come out and clear the danger.
Bragg impressed once more for the Royals, setting up many inspired attacks. The Durham defence looked extremely vulnerable down the left side, which Rebecca Jane, Bruton, Bragg and Kirby took full advantage of in the first half but they were still unable to break the deadlock.
Scoring goals has been a major issue for Durham throughout the season, they have managed only twelve goals in WSL 2. After half an hour, Durham started to make an impact in the game, creating a few changes but when needed, Grace Moloney was equal to anything Durham threw at her.
The best chance of the first half fell to Fran Kirby with a free kick which she lifted over the wall and beat the keeper but not the post and the rebound shot was well covered by Moorhouse.
Jayne Ludlow made two substitutes at half time and this certainly made a difference with the opener coming courtesy of Cheryl Williams after Lois Roche set her up, having found some space on the ball to pick out the perfect pass. Williams then looked to double the lead and forced Moorhouse into a really good, stretching save which was palmed wide for a corner.
Fran Kirby picked up the ball wide on the left and drifted into the centre before picking out a pass for Williams whose shot rattled the bar.
Reading struck the woodwork for a third time in the game after Williams drove the ball down the right, her cross eventually making its way to Kirby whose shot was tipped onto the bar and out.
The substantial Reading pressure paid off with ten minutes to play. Substitute Leigh Nicol set up Kirby who calmly finished off the play for her 22nd goal of the campaign.
The Royals looked to pile on the misery for Durham but Lauren Bruton's strike hit the underside of the bar and bounced out. The Reading players thought it was in, but importantly the referee didn't and denied Bruton her third goal in two matches.
Kirby finished off the game in usual clinical fashion as she rounded the keeper and smashed the ball into the net to ensured Reading the three points with a brilliant 3-0 win.
