Villa grab late victory
 Women's Football News 14 Sep 2014

Millwall Lionesses 2 (Cowan 21, Agg 37) Aston Villa 3 (Cole og 23, Wilkinson 86, Follis 90)
First half goals from Leanne Cowan and Lily Agg seemed to have set the Lionesses on path to victory but the 85th minute dismissal of Millwall skipper Naomi Cole turned the game on its head.

In an entertaining opening to the match, there were chances at either end with Lily Agg, partnering Cherrelle Albert in attack for the first time, seeing an early effort denied by the visitors' keeper. Meanwhile, at the other end, Villa's Lauren Walker was unlucky not to connect with a dangerous cross from Hayley Crackle.

Stevie Lamb went close for the hosts with a looped effort that cleared the bar, before Leanne Cowan popped up in the 21st minute to net the first goal of her Lionesses career, off the underside of the bar, after Albert's earlier shot had been parried by the keeper.

The home side's lead was short lived though, as Aston Villa fashioned an equaliser just minutes later, Emma Follis' right wing cross finding the net off the unfortunate Cole.

Eight minutes before the interval the Lionesses restored their lead in spectacular fashion as Lily Agg's powerful long range strike beat Chloe Beattie to find the back of the net. Keeper Sarah Quantrill ensured that the home side's lead remained intact at half time with two fantastic saves from Natasha Baptiste and Jade Richards.

Neither side looked like adding to their tally in the second half, with the Lionesses looking good value for the win, until Villa's Katie Wilkinson went to ground just outside the box in the 85th minute. After lengthy consultations with his linesman, the referee showed a straight red card to Millwall captain Naomi Cole, and to add insult to injury for the home side, Wilkinson scored from the resulting free-kick to level the scores.

Reduced to ten men, the Lionesses fought a solid rearguard action but were undone in the first minute of time added on as Emma Follis showed great composure to cut into the box and steal the points with a cool finish.

Millwall Lionesses: Sarah Quantrill, Naomi Cole, Frankie Strugnell, Lilli Maple, Chantelle Mackie, Stevie Lamb, Leanne Cowan (sub Hannah Wheeler 86mins), Lily Agg, Ciara Sherwood (sub Lillie Fenlon-Billson 60mins), Cherrelle Albert, Grace Fisk.
