Reserve Section League Cup holders Bradford City began their defence of the trophy by winning 17-1 against Leicester City Ladies. However the beaten finalists last year, Cardiff City Ladies, are out this time around after going down to a 4-3 defeat at the hands of West Ham Utd. There was also a close game at Nottingham Forest where visitors Derby County emerged as 4-2 victors after extra time. Newcastle Utd were impressive 3-0 winners over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Guiseley AFC Vixens defeated FC Reedswood 4-0.
Leicester City Women scored seven times without reply at Loughborough Students whilst Gillingham were 4-1 winners over Bedford Ladies and Charlton Athletic beat Chichester City 6-0, Olivia Cole hitting a hat-trick for the Addicks with Kylie Manktelow (2) and Kelly Stubbington joining her on the scoresheet. Lewes raced to a 4-0 success at Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur won 3-1 against C & K Basildon.
Sheffield FC are the early pacesetters in the Northern Division after scoring nine without reply against Huddersfield Town. Ellie Hall and Nikki Hogg each scored a hat-trick with Sheldon Ashton, Olivia Foxton and Sydney Shugafi also on target.
In the Midland Division, Coventry City and Stoke City battled out a thrilling 3-3 draw. Megan Ralph and Alison Forbes put Coventry two ahead, before Stoke stormed back to lead through Emily Curteis, Sophie Taylor and Jordann Sloan. With nine minutes remaining, Kia Morrall equalised to give the Sky Blues a share of the spoils.
