Doncaster Rovers Belles 4 (Sweetman-Kirk 10, England 54,56, Thomas 90) Millwall Lionesses 1 (Albert 36)
A second brace in two games for Beth England helped the Belles to a 4-1 victory over Millwall Lionesses at the Keepmoat Stadium.
After a slow start the deadlock was broken on ten minutes when Courtney Sweetman-Kirk slotted into the far corner from six yards out. The striker latched onto a delightful through ball from Kasia Lipka to give the home side the advantage.
Millie Bright meant business in midfield and seemed determined to grab a goal as she saw one shot fly over the bar and a second well held by Sarah Quantrill as the Belles dominated the opening exchanges. Despite pushing for a second, Sweetman-Kirk couldn't find a finishing touch to a corner and Quantrill was out to claim the ball before Bright latched onto a through ball.
Out of nowhere, Millwall were back in it on 35 minutes when Lillie Fenlon-Billson's ball from the right found Cherrelle Albert in the box and the striker stroked the ball past Nicola Hobbs to level the scores.
Sue Smith failed to bundle home Hope Knight's cross shortly after as the Belles pushed for a second goal. Smith was then denied by a great save from Quantrill after a goalmouth scramble.
In fact it was almost the visitors that went in front just before the break after a mistake from Rhiannon Roberts in the Belles backline. The defender's loose pass fell to Albert who tried her luck from 35 yards but Hobbs tipped it behind for a corner as it ended 1-1 at half time.
Gordon Staniforth made a half time change with Jess Sigsworth replacing Knight and from the off she was straight into the action. Firstly, England fired a drive against the bar before Sigsworth teed up Sweetman-Kirk to force Quantrill into a fine save. The former Notts County striker was in the mood for goals as she again forced Quantrill to tip over her bar in a pulsating opening to the second half from the home side.
Sigsworth was the set free down the left by Smith but again Quantrill saved well, however her heroics weren't to keep the Belles out for much longer. England put the home side back in front after reacting quickest to the rebound after Sweetman-Kirk's shot came back off the legs of Quantrill.
The visiting keeper could do nothing to stop the Belles making it three within seconds of the restart after superb play from Sigsworth found England who smashed the ball under Quantrill at her near post.
As the visitors looked to tire, Bright struck the bar, Victoria Williams turned Lyndsey Cunningham's cross the wrong side of the post and Sigsworth drove wide looking for a fourth. It should have been four with five minutes to go but somehow Sigsworth headed wide when she looked certain to nod England's free kick past Quantrill before the keeper again denied Sweetman-Kirk.
Reanne Thomas did make it four eventually with the last touch in the game when the substitute headed home Cunningham's cross to round off the convincing win.
Another solid second half performance gave the Belles another three points and their tenth league victory of the season.
