City get back on track

City get back on track - 24 Sep 2014 - Women's Football NewsGlasgow City defeated Celtic 4-0 with a dominant and confident display at Barrowfield on Wednesday evening.
Three first half goals by Morgan Marlborough, Suzanne Lappin and Eilish McSorley weree followed up by a second half header by Julie Nelson to get City back to their habit of winning games.
Having lost their first league match in nearly six years to Spartans last Sunday, all eyes were on the league leaders to see how they would respond against fourth placed Celtic, and the reigning Champions did not disappoint their loyal supporters who turned up to cheer them on.
New signing Morgan Marlborough scored her first goal for the club when she turned on the edge of the box, before unleashing a well placed left foot strike into the bottom corner after only ten minutes. At 6ft tall, the powerful striker is already showing to be a great addition to the City line up and her pace, power and strength caused the home side problems for the majority of the night.
However, there were excellent displays all over the park for City and none more so than in midfield where Joanne Love, Leanne Crichton and Suzanne Lappin dictated the pace of the game and showed a hunger and desire that would have certainly pleased Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black.
City's all time top goalscorer Lappin got herself on the scoresheet with goal number two for her side, when she hit a cracking first time shot into the top corner from the edge of the box, which Celtic and Scotland keeper Gemma Fay could do nothing about.
Goal number three came from a set piece as defender Eilish McSorley cleverly headed home at the near post to give her side a 3-0 lead at the interval. It was a lead which few would have denied the league leaders more than deserved from a fantastic first half display.
Eleven minutes after the restart and it was 4-0 as Julie Nelson headed an Abbi Grant cross into the back of the net, after a City corner.
