Belles narrow the gap
 Women's Football News 12 Oct 2014
Doncaster Rovers Belles 2 (Sweetman-Kirk 19, Roberts 34) Durham Women 0
Doncaster Rovers Belles rounded off a successful week with a solid 2-0 victory over Durham at the Keepmoat Stadium to close the gap on leaders Sunderland.
After a slow start as the rain lashed down, Jess Sigsworth almost found Beth England with a great ball but the Belles' top scorer couldn't quite get on the end of it.
The first real chance of the game fell to Victoria Williams, fresh from her winning goal against Sunderland, the left back found herself free at the back post but poked an effort wide of the target.
However, the miss was to be forgotten seconds later when the in-form Courtney Sweetman-Kirk pounced on a mistake from Durham keeper Dani Hill to slot home after 20 minutes.
Another mistake in distribution from Hill almost gifted Sue Smith a second Belles goal but her effort cleared the bar. A second goal did come just after the half hour though when Rhiannon Roberts powered home Millie Bright's corner from the penalty spot.
A brilliant save from Hill prevented Sweetman-Kirk adding to her tally as the Belles remained in total control and Sigsworth clipped the bar just before half time with a ferocious drive.
In a second half of limited quality, Hill tipped over Sigsworth's effort before substitute Reanne Thomas saw a shot deflected wide. Smith went close to finishing the game off with two minutes remaining but after being sent through on goal, Hill produced a fantastic save to keep the second half goalless.
Doncaster Rovers Belles: Nicola Hobbs, Lyndsey Cunningham, Victoria Williams, Leandra Little, Rhiannon Roberts, Kasia Lipka, Jess Sigsworth, Sue Smith, Courtney Sweetman-Kirk (sub Sophie Stamp 67mins), Millie Bright, Beth England (sub Ashleigh Mills).

Durham Women: Danielle Hill, Ellie Christon, Jennifer King, Jennifer Jennings (sub Courtney Corrie 75mins), Sarah Wilson, Caroline Dixon, Beth Hepple, Victoria Linsley, Zoe Ness, Jordan Atkinson (sub Natalie Henderson 55mins), Jemma Purfield (sub Emily Scott 55mins).
