Last week, the Cumberland FA kicked off a brand new Under-11 Girls Primary School Football Festival Programme.
The event welcomed girls from Stanwix Primary School and Newtown Community Primary School to take part in a 7v7 Festival, based at the University of Cumbria in Carlisle.
As part of our work around raising the profile of the girls game, we kick off this exciting project just in time for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. Our objectives are to retain and increase participation in youth female football by creating lively football opportunities that are informative and engaging for girls and increase awareness of the Female Game.
Jess Lawson, Football Development Officer said: "There was a great buzz at last week's event with over 30 girls in attendance. The exciting part was that a good 50% of those who attended do not currently play in clubs, and all seemed really eager to continue playing."
The next event will take place on Monday 15th December 2014 at the University of Cumbria from 3.30pm. We already have seven schools signed up to this event, and we look forward to releasing 2015 festival dates soon.
