Improving Preston North End made it eight wins out of nine in all competitions with a 2-1 victory away to Newcastle Utd in the Northern Division.
Preston, who finished runners-up last season, took the lead nine minutes before half time when Chelsea Flanagan latched onto a through ball from Paige Forster and lobbed Megan Borthwick for the opening goal. Newcastle levelled the scores early in the second half when Robyn Parker slotted home following a Jessica Havelock free kick but four minutes later, Forster went from provider to goalscorer by drilling in a shot from the edge of the area. Sarah Cadwick, Emily Hutton and Flanagan all went close to extending their side's lead and although they were denied by Borthwick on each occasion, Preston closed the game out for a result which sees them up into a mid-table position.
Coventry City meanwhile regained the leadership with a 2-0 success against third placed Bradford City, given to them by goals from Helen Dermody and Destiney Toussaint (see match report).
