The weather took its toll on the Reserve Section of the Premier League with all matches in the Northern and Midland Divisions being postponed on Sunday. There was some action in the Southern Division though, two matches going ahead with the current top two in the table both being involved.
West Ham Utd kept themselves four points clear at the top by winning 3-2 away to fourth placed Crystal Palace. The Hammers were grateful to Abbie Solly as she netted an injury time winner to help her side keep up the pace, adding to earlier goals from Amy Gullefer and Sasha Kelly. Leanne Bell and Lucy Galea replied for Palace whose unbeaten home record came to an end. Meanwhile Brighton & Hove Albion maintained the pressure in second place with another high scoring victory. Jay Blackie led the scoring with a four-goal haul as the Seagulls ran out 10-0 winners over Gillingham, with Lucy Somes weighing in by grabbing a hat-trick. Sophie Perry, Holly Talbut-Smith and Paige Baker-Carroll completed the tally as they netted a goal apiece.
The FA WSL Development League is still on its mid-season break and is set to return to action at the end of the month.
The Reserve Section League Cup Second Round tie between Leeds Ladies and Derby County once again fell victim to the weather and they will make another attempt this week. The draw for the quarter finals has been announced and is as follows:
West Ham Utd v Tottenham Hotspur
Gillingham v Sheffield FC
Lewes v Stoke City
Bradford City v Leeds or Derby County
to be played on 25th January
