F.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
Chorley are through to the Second Round for the first time in their history after a Vicky Coope hat-trick, Scarlett Smith and Sam Cadwallader gave them a 5-2 victory over Rotherham Utd. The Lancashire side will be at home to FC Reedswood who were 4-1 winners away to Leicester City Ladies thanks to Tash Hughes (2), Natalie Poole and Kelly Clarke.
FC Reedswood were formed in 2004 by Kelly Williams, who is the club Secretary, and they have slowly climbed our way up from the Staffordshire Women's County League to the FA Women's Premier League. In 2008-09, Reedswood won the Staffordshire League title as well as the League Cup, gaining promotion to the West Midlands League where they carried off the Division One title in 2011-12.
Last season was the best in the club's history so far as they were crowned West Midlands League Premier Division Champions and were beaten Staffordshire County Cup finalists, as well as reaching the Third Round of the F.A.Women's Cup where they were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Copsewood (Coventry). This earned them a place in the new look Premier League and they lie around mid-table in Midlands Division One.
The club's manager is Vicky Mitchell, who started the role in November alongside head coach Harry Varley. Kelly Highman, who signed for the club this season from Cardiff Met Ladies, is club captain whilst the longest serving player is founder Kelly Williams and Rebecca John, who joined the club in 2004. Unfortunately Rebecca is injured for Sunday but hopefully she will travel with the team on the day. Natalie Poole is leading goalscorer with ten goals to her name, she is also vice captain.
The two teams met in the Premier League Cup at the start of the season and Reedswood came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in the second half, and another closely fought game is anticipated on Sunday.
