Futsal League reaches dramatic conclusion
 Women's Football News 16 Jan 2015
On Tuesday night, the Northamptonshire Ladies Futsal league reached a dramatic conclusion on the final evening of fixtures. Both Northampton teams and Kettering Ladies Futsal team all started the night with a chance of winning the league so it was all to play for.
Six teams entered the competition back in September and have played monthly fixtures, each consisting of 40 minute matches against each other. The six teams consist of two from Corby, made up predominantly with players from Corby S & L ladies but with some other players. Kingsthorpe's team is mainly made up of players from Northampton Town Ladies. Kettering Futsal club were the first in the county to have a ladies section and Jenna Kiely works hard to develop the ladies section with the support of Sam Hallett. The other two teams are Northampton based, with one side consisting mainly of Moulton players and the other side with players from the now folded AFC Trinity Ladies and Burton Park Wanderers Ladies.
The final night saw Kettering face both Northampton teams and Corby Blues face Northampton B. Although Corby Blues could not compete for honours they gave the Northampton B team a good game. The Corby Goalkeeper was awarded the Player of the Match on the night saving numerous shots but the game finished 8-3 in Northampton's favour.
This match put Northampton B in the lead with two games to go on the night. Kettering Futsal Club had to play both Northampton teams and on paper these games were anyone's for the taking. Northampton A started well, scoring a couple of good early goals and they went in 5-0 up at half time and despite Kettering's best efforts, this was how it remained. This left both Northampton teams on 12 points and Kettering on 9 points with one game to play.
The final game between Northampton B and Kettering was to be the decider, and Northampton took a strong early lead. Kettering pulled one back but in the end, Northampton were just too strong, securing a 7-1 victory. Northampton B now go on to the FA Regional Women's Futsal Finals in Leeds on Saturday 14th March and we wish them the best of luck.
In the meantime, Northants FA are running a ladies Futsal taster event at Kettering Arena on Thursday February 12th for teams who may be interested in the next league that starts in March. Contact Kathryn Hall on (01604) 678407 or Kathryn.Hall@Northantsfa.com for more information.
