Wales 0 France B 1
Wales suffered defeat in their opening Istria Cup match in Croatia following a 38th minute goal scored by France B's Marina Makanza.
Wales lost Natasha Harding from their attack early on in this match after picking up an injury that prevented her from continuing. Helen Ward came off the bench to replace her.
This was Jayne Ludlow's first game in charge and she nearly saw Wales take a 13th minute lead when a good delivery from Sarah Wiltshire was met by Ward, however, the Wales striker directed her headed effort against the crossbar.
Makanza pounced to score what would turn out to be the winning goal in the 38th minute, leaving Wales to look towards their next match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday (10.30am). In today's other Group C match, Costa Rica were 1-0 victors over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The format of the Istria Cup sees three groups of four teams each playing each other once. This will be followed by play-offs to determine the winner of the tournament and their final tournament placement.
Wales: Alice Evans, Loren Dykes, Helen Blezard, Sophie Ingle, Kylie Davies, Nia Jones, Rachel Rowe, Laura May Walkley, Natasha Harding (sub Helen Ward 5mins), Cori Williams, Sarah Wiltshire.
