Reigning Scottish Women's Premier League Champions, Glasgow City started the new season where they left off with a 5-0 away win against Hutchison Vale to ensure confidence remains high before the visit of Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Women's Champions League next Sunday.
Suzanne Lappin led the scoring for City with a hat-trick and also on target were Susan Fairlie and Abbi Grant to help their side record the joint biggest victory on the opening day of the new season.
The other 5-0 winners were Spartans who defeated Forfar Farmington. Sarah Ewens was on target twice for the opening side along with Michelle Russell, Louise Mason and Trisha McLaughlin.
Last season's runners-up Rangers have also begun well, running out 4-0 winners away to Hamilton Academical. Lisa Swanson gave them the lead in sixth minute but it wasn't until the second half that Rangers sewed up the points, Hayley Cunningham scoring twice in a five minute spell before Kirsty Howat added the fourth late on.
Hibernian will be seeking to improve on last year's third place finish and got their campaign underway with a 1-0 victory away to Celtic, Emma Brownlie scoring from a free kick.
Aberdeen also made it a winning start to the season when Hannah Stewart netted the only goal of the game just before the hour mark, to give them a 1-0 success against newly promoted Hearts.
The other league newcomers, Stirling University, registered a point in their first ever game in the league after sharing a 1-1 draw with Inverness City. Nicole Pullar put Stirling in front during the first half, with an own goal earning Inverness a share of the spoils after the break.
