Middlesbrough have been in excellent form in FAWPL Northern Division One in recent weeks and have embarked on a winning run which has taken them from the bottom two to fifth place in the table, with a realistic chance of finishing in the top three.
On Sunday they emphasised this with an excellent 3-1 win away to league leaders Guiseley AFC Vixens, their eighth successive victory in all competitions.
We talked to Middlesbrough striker Bianca Owens, whose goals have been an important factor in her side's recent form, and she told us that the Guiseley win a deserved result and confidence is high that the run can continue:
Well done on a fantastic result on Sunday, do you think that the scoreline was a justified one?
Yeah I do, I think we started off quite shaky and obviously conceded early on (which was a great goal by them) but we eventually settled down and managed to get two before half time. I think we controlled the game from then on.
Even though you were playing away to the league leaders, did you go into the match full of confidence?
Yes, we actually feel unbeatable at the moment, after beating Liverpool Feds previously we knew that we could beat anyone in our league on our day.
Was it an ideal result to avenge your 5-1 defeat to Guiseley earlier in the season (your last defeat to date)?
Yes! We have improved so much as a squad since that game and I think we just needed to prove how good we are.
That's eight wins in a row now, have there been any specific reasons for the turnaround in form?
I just think, as a team, we have finally gelled properly and we have the right balance of experience along with youngsters. We are also getting more and more confident with every win.
Did you feel that the team was capable of putting together a run like this?
Yes definitely, we have signed a couple of players and we knew by adding them into the current squad and when we finally gelled, it would happen.
This week you play another of the top teams in Leeds, presumably you will be hopeful of another good result?
We know that Leeds will be a very hard test and they have had some really good results, but then again so have we, so we will go into the game full of confidence hoping for the win!
How high do you think the team can go in the rest of the season, can you challenge for a top three place?
Yes definitely, our aim is to get at least a top four finish and we will be hoping to sneak into the top three! We just need to keep winning.
