Marine sail away to title - 27 Mar 2015 - Women's Football News

The destination of the South West League Western Division title was decided this week when Marine Academy Plymouth were crowned as Champions.
Marine Academy Plymouth, or MAP as they are known, have been a well established, self-funded team for four seasons. This season has been the club's best to date and with fresh new faces coming in at the beginning of the season, the team has developed into a title winning side.
With three remaining fixtures to play, MAP clinched the title by getting the point that they needed against the only team that could catch them, Callington Town, with a dramatic 3-3 draw. Callington have been the only team to take points away from the newly crowned Champions twice this season as they hold an impressive unbeaten record in the league.
Manager Alan Thomas emphasises that the team morale and the unity that they share is one of a kind, the performances on the pitch showing great credit to the hard work they put in off it.
The team is captained by Louise Chaves and leading goalscorer is Samantha Drewery, who has a total of 34 goals to her name so far this season. Samantha is also the club secretary and she told Women's Soccer Scene: "The work behind the scenes has been crucial and the support of our sponsors and committee really helps achieve the whole success. We are now preparing for the step up into the Premier Division and are on the lookout for additional players and sponsorship to help the success of the club continue."
Possible new players/sponsors can get in contact with secretary, Samantha Drewery via email at sam.drewery7@hotmail.co.uk.
The season is not yet over for the club in terms of achieving silverware. MAP face Bishop's Lydeard in the semi finals of the Bristol Soccerworld Cup on 12th April.
Marine Academy Plymouth squad: Ellie Bishop, Kate Bowden, Jade Bryan, Rosie Burridge, Aimie Carpenter, Louise Chaves, Stacey Derrick, Samantha Drewery, Chelsea Easton, Lauren Hewings, Harriet Howell, Jaye Howlett, Natalie Liggett, Eden May, Hannah Prisk, Olivia Ramsey, Jamey Symons, Nicola Symons, Georgie Talbot.
