London Bees 0 Reading FC Women 7 (Kirby 6,19,26,28,77, Burton pen 25, Horwood 55)
England hot shot Fran Kirby continued to hog the limelight with a five-star showing as Reading Women brushed aside London Bees 7-0 at the Hive.
Reading, who enjoyed a 4-2 win over Yeovil on the opening day of the FA Women's Super League 2 season with Kirby scoring four, led within ten minutes. Kirby doubled her tally in the 19th minute, sweeping home after being assisted by an intelligently placed cross from Emma Follis. The midfielder had beaten Paula Howells with ease, with three further goals coming within three minutes just before the half hour mark.
Firstly, a handball in the box led to Captain Lauren Bruton slotting home a penalty, before twice successively Reading claimed the ball almost immediately from the resumption. Both occasions culminated in Kirby rounding the goalkeeper to score, the first after being fed by Bonnie Horwood, the second after good work from strike partner Bianca Bragg.
Reading scored again ten minutes after the interval as a ball forward from Harriet Scott fell for Horwood to lift it over Bees keeper Sophie Harris and calmly slot home. Kirby claimed her fifth in the 77th minute through excellent individual skill and a calm finish to complete the scoring.
