Reading open up early gap

Reading open up early gap - 3 Apr 2015 - Women's Football NewsReading FC Women 3 (Kirby 25, Follis 67,75) Watford 0
A dominant display at the Rushmoor Community Stadium saw Reading FC Women grab another 3 points in the WSL 2 race for promotion.

Emma Follis struck twice as Reading maintained their 100 per cent start to the new FA WSL 2 season by easing to a comfortable win over bottom club Watford. There was also an obligatory goal from Fran Kirby, who celebrated her England call up by taking her tally for the campaign to an astonishing ten goals in just three games.

Reading threatened often during the opening stages with Rachel Rowe's cross coming back off the near post before Mollie Burgess superbly blocked Lauren Bruton's shot from point blank range.

The breakthrough after 25 minutes inevitably came from Kirby as she raced on to Bruton's ball over the top before finishing confidently across Cherie Rowlands and into the corner.

The Royals eventually doubled their lead halfway through the second half when Follis went around substitute goalkeeper Shayla Burgess before trickling in a shot from a narrow angle.

Follis was to then grab her second of the night when she tapped in a rebound after Shayla Burgess had done well to keep out Helen Ward's header from Rowe's cross.

The hosts had the chance to inflict further misery on their visitors when Gracie Gillard tripped Ward in the area but Bruton blew her chance from the spot as her kick soared over the bar.
