Seven up for Pompey

Seven up for Pompey - 9 Apr 2015 - Women's Football NewsPortsmouth lifted the Hampshire FA Challenge Cup for the seventh successive season with a 4-1 victory over Southampton Saints in front of a bumper crowd at Gosport Borough FC's Privett Park.
Two late goals from substitute Ini Umotong finally saw off a dogged Saints team and allowed skipper Charley Wilson to lift the cup.
Pompey nearly created a sensational start to the match as Wilson, played in by Gemma Hillier, forced the first of a string of fine saves from Saints keeper Hannah Haughton. Tiff Taylor then crashed a shot against the bar before the match settled into a more even contest.
Portsmouth had the majority of possession and pressure but Saints played their way out of defence to good effect and skipper Krystal Whyte and Becki Bath used the ball well in midfield.
It took a stunning strike from Shannon Sievwright on 27 minutes to break the deadlock, lashing a 20-yard shot into the top right corner of Haughton's goal.
Chloe Dark doubled the advantage five minutes later with a low shot from distance and it was 37 minutes before Saints won their first corner and had their first effort on goal, a shot over debutant keeper Michelle Beazley's goal.
Saints were given a lifeline on 51 minutes when Beazley's clearance went straight to Jemma Tewkesbury who finished neatly. Portsmouth went in search of a third but were denied by brave defending and fine saves from Haughton, the best of which was a great reaction stop from Hillier's close range header.
The arrival of Umotong as substitute provided the cutting edge, her run and shot hitting the bar, Taylor returning the ball for the Nigerian international to score with a diving header on 79 minutes.
Hillier was denied by another fine Haughton save and Ellie Bloomfield shot narrowly over the bar before Umotong. awarded player of the match for her performance, scored her second in added time with a solo run and finish.
Portsmouth deserved their victory with a solid all round performance but Saints were worthy opponents in an enjoyable contest.
