Everton 1 (K.Jones 54) Doncaster Rovers Belles 1 (Smith 14)
Everton came from behind to earn a point against Doncaster Rovers Belles at the Select Security Stadium on Saturday evening.
Sue Smith gave the visitors an early lead as she found the net directly from a corner but Kelly Jones equalised in the second half to give both sides a share of the spoils.
The Blues had the first chance of the game and it came through drive and determination from Emily Hollinshead. The forward raced down the right hand side before whipping in a cross and Kelly Jones was just inches away from connecting.
It was a fast start from both sides and the visitors would have the ball in the back of the net with just five minutes on the clock. Emily Roberts was played in on goal and supplied a cool finish but luckily for the Blues her effort was ruled out for offside.
But it wouldn't be long before Doncaster went ahead. The Toffees conceded a corner and Sue Smith found the net with an inswinging corner to give her side an early lead.
However, just minutes later Michelle Hinnigan had the chance to get the Blues straight back into the game when a penalty was awarded after Lucy Whipp was fouled in the box. Hinnigan was successful in last weekend's penalty shootout win over Charlton Athletic but that wouldn't be the case this time as Rovers keeper Nicola Hobbs guessed the right way and palmed away the captain's spot kick.
Despite the penalty miss, Everton continued to push for that equaliser with Hollinshead and Whipp causing problems for the Rovers defence and on the stroke of half time a fine passing move from the Blues created an opportunity for Simone Magill but Hobbs was equal to her effort.
Andy Spence's side came out for the second half and immediately put the visitors under pressure and they got a deserved leveller after just ten minutes of the restart. Magill found herself in space on the left hand side before finding Kelly Jones in the box, who took one touch and fired past Hobbs in the Doncaster goal.
Everton looked for that second goal and the best chance for the Blues to grab a winner fell to Lauren Davies. Whipp, who was a threat all night, went down the right wing before finding an unmarked Davies in the box but the midfielder had her effort saved.
Both sides searched for a winner up until the final whistle but they both would have to settle for a point leaving both still unbeaten after their opening four league games, with Doncaster taking over as leaders.
