Bedworth keep up winning habit

Bedworth keep up winning habit - 8 May 2015 - Women's Football News

Bedworth United are celebrating after winning the East Midlands League Division One South title with an unbeaten record.
After having been promoted from the Leicestershire County League at the end of last season, Bedworth took a little time to adjust to life at a higher level, according to manager Paddy Richards.
"We didn't get off to the best of starts at the beginning of the season," Paddy told Women's Soccer Scene. "The first game of the season against Corby, although we won 3-1, had a lot to do with our keeper making countless saves.
"In the second game against Oadby & Wigston, we found ourselves 4-1 down at half time but managed to turn the game around by drawing 4-4. After these two setbacks, we then seem to step up a gear, limit silly mistakes and our results and performances started to improve.
"Other key performances were against Loughborough Students when again our keeper had to save two penalties and good forward play by Kirsty Farnsworth and Jodi Hunter allowed us to win the game comfortably at the end. We then continued to go from strength to strength, mainly because our midfield started to dominate games, allowing us to create many chances going forward."
The same three teams had occupied the top three places through most of the season but after Oadby & Wigston Dynamo ran out of fixtures and had to settle for third, the other two challengers were left face to face when deciding the title. "The league was always going to be decided in our last two fixtures against Burton Park Wanderers with us requiring four points out of these two games," explained Paddy.
"We came away with a 4-0 victory in the first game away to them and in our home game, and final game of the season, we won 4-1 to take the honour of being league title winners."
Becks Leatherbarrow is team captain and top goalscorer is Kirsty Farnworth, not only in the team but throughout the whole of the East Midlands League.
"Other people I would like to mention who have helped us succeed in winning the title on and off the pitch, including Bedworth United's Chairman, Neill Rayson Randle, Alan Ison (board director) and all our supporters," said Paddy. "Also my two assistants, Ian Richards and Shaun Taylor, and my wife Tina Richards, who runs all the administration side of things and is our Fixtures Secretary."
Bedworth United squad: Charlotte Castle, Eleanor Chapman, Kirsty Farnsworth, Lydia Hackney, Catherine Hewitt, Jodi Hunter, Leanne Jones, Becks Leatherbarrow, Jodi Lewis, Emily Mann, Abbie O'Flynn, Mairead O'Hara, Jessica Sevellec, Rebekah Smith, Hannah Spencer, Shanice Walsh, Sophie Wilson.
