Japan keep up winning start
 Women's Football News 17 Jun 2015
Japan 1 (Ogimi 5) Ecuador 0
Japan ensured that they went into the knockout stage with a 100% record with their third successive odd-goal victory.
The reigning World Champions kept up their record of scoring all of their goals inside the opening half hour when they took the lead after five minutes. Aya Miyama whipped in a cross from the left and although Yuika Sugasawa was unable to divert her shot on target, Yuki Ogimi was on hand to get the final touch as Angie Ponce attempted to clear, the ball going in off the underside of the bar.
Another good Japanese passing move ended with Saori Ariyoshi bursting into the area on the right and her cross was met by Miyama whose downward header was tipped onto the bar by Shirley Berruz.
The pattern of the game continued with Japan monopolising possession and Ecuador showing a great improvement in defence following their opening two matches.
A rare foray into the Japanese half after the break saw Monica Quinteros make a good run down the left and her low cross looked destined for Kerlly Real but the teenager was foiled by a great saving tackle from Megumi Kamionobe.
Back came Japan with Miyama's pass being touched off by Ogimi for Aya Sameshima whose ball into the area was met with an acrobatic overhead kick from Sugasawa, which was touched onto the bar by Berruz.
Berruz was having a fine match in goal and she was called into action once again in the dying minutes. Mana Iwabuchi played the ball into the area for Ogimi who returned it into her path with a neat backheel but Iwabuchi's shot brought out a fine point blank save from Berruz to preserve the one-goal margin.
Japan: Miho Fukumoto, Saori Ariyoshi, Aya Sameshima, Asuna Tanaka, Yuri Kawamura, Kana Kitahara (sub Megumi Kamionobe 45mins), Yuki Ogimi, Aya Miyama, Yuika Sugasawa (sub Mana Iwabuchi 80mins), Homare Sawa, Shinobu Ohno (sub Asano Nagasato 75mins).
