China end Cameroon dream
 Women's Football News 21 Jun 2015
China 1 (Shanshan Wang 12) Cameroon 0
The last remaining African team went out of the competition when Cameroon were narrowly beaten by China, who progress to the last eight once again.
Cameroon could have had a goal inside the opening 20 seconds but Madeleine Ngoni Mani's effort flew over the bar. It was the Chinese who were to go in front just twelve minutes later, a corner reaching the far post where Dongna Li played the ball back into the centre and Shanshan Wang neatly guided her shot past Annette Ngo Ndom for the opening goal.
Both teams continued to attack and both had opportunities but the best one in the first half, after the goal, came from a Cameroon free kick where Gaelle Enganamouit's shot was deflected off the wall and into the path of Gabrielle Onguene but the angle was just too tight and her shot hit the side netting.
After the break, Cameroon continued to press hard for an equaliser with China content to sit on their lead and hit on the counter attack. This led to a glorious chance for the Chinese when Peng Han's ball over the top released Shanshan Wang on goal with only Ngo Ndom to beat but Yvonne Leuko did really well to get back and force the striker to shoot wide under pressure.
Enganamouit was unlucky not to level the scores when she beat Fei Wang to a Christine Manie cross but her looping header bounced on the bar and over. The striker, who has greatly enhanced her reputation during the competition, continued to be a handful for the Chinese defence. It was China who were to have the next chance though, a long clearance by Fei Wang being latched onto by Jiahui Lou who lobbed the ball goalwards but Ngo Ndom came to her team's rescue as she clawed the ball away at full stretch.
Back came Cameroon with Henriette Akaba heading just wide from an Onguene cross whilst Ajara Nchout volleyed straight at Fei Wang. Despite the efforts of the Cameroon side, they could not make the breakthrough and were inconsolable after the game whilst China celebrated the prospect of facing the USA or Colombia in the quarter finals.
